There was this book Using Basman’s Defense To Show Off Against Patzers. It was written with permanent on yellow Post-It notes. This is also reflected in the $3 cover price! A bit lower than most chess books, but hey, you get what you pay for.

Progress in Chess is great! I have a Botvinnik-Symslov World Championships Match Collection from them as well as Karpov’s best game collection. But I tend to hunt down game collections like the nerd I am!

Good review! I want to eventually play the Dutch but right now I am committed to the Tarrasch!!

I am also changing to Chessbase but I somehow managed to transfer my games with very little fuzz. Mr Goldfish Memory (yours truly) does not remember what I did to make it work.

I did soften the criticism a bit, but my situation is a bit different. I play with a lot of junior HS and HS players. Most of them have coaches and they tend to know their Sicilian lines fairly well (those who play them anyway)

I felt (maybe incorrectly) that this should give you enough confidence to start using the repertoire straight away, I didn’t feel that way after reading the book.

I guess it doesn’t really matter as I’m playing the open Sicilians as white anyway, but I haven’t used this book to get my repertoire together.

I am relying on Neil Mcdonald’s Starting out c4 though your criticism is valid.Firstly ,because at (my)club level the guys I usually play with are not thorough with theory.For another I am an intermediate level player player playing regularly for 12 years and so I can hold on and perhaps beat guys just above me with these aggressive lines.Also,I want to stick to main lines to compare myself (humbly)with the greats of today,that being real chess.
