Well kids the past two weeks have been absolutely hellish for me. Finishhing up my 4th MBA course added with the extra work hours of the end of Summer at work have lead to me getting about 4 hours of sleep a night. It’s has kind of sucked.
But that’s all bedhind me now! I’m going back to NYC and points east for a little vacation. Hopefully I will get to meet Polly next Thursday at the Marshall for some of the Crackation Chess she’s always talking about. It will be great for me to finally play a game in this place. I will also finally be posting my ICC blog book review, so be on the look out for it in the near future.
Anyone know of any good chess spots in NYC? I know of the Chess Forum, Village Chess Shop, and Washington Square Park; I normally hit these places up when I go back into NYC, but I was looking for some places I’ve never gone to before. Currently I am going to hit up the Strand which is a used book store but I hear they have a good chess section and Fred Wilson’s Chess Books. If anyone knows of any place that I’m missing let me know.
Have a good week folks, I know I am.
The Strand has one decent table of chess books in the downstairs. I was going to recommend Morningside Books, too, but Google tells me they closed — yet another wonderful independent bookshop bits the dust.
And every Tuesday evening (7.30ish), the Greenpoint Chess Club meets at the Matchless bar in Brooklyn for friendly Blitz games and 2for1 beer. A great place for some relaxed chess and socialising!
Hey Wang!!
Have a great time in NYC. I am almost finished with my tour! There has been no chess but I have had a lot of fun performing AND I got to see the Arches National park in Moab Utah! It was breathtaking!!! (Not to mention the Colorado Rockies and Grand Tetons in Wyoming!)
Have a great time in New York and get some well deserved time away from Graduate work. You have earned it!
Enjoy your little vacation!
Against my better jet lagged judgement I will see you tonight. I can’t help myself!!!
Somehow they did not have your bye request for round 4 so we would have ended out being paired in round 4. I told the TD that you were planning to take a bye for the last round, and that you had left. Bummer we didn’t get to play each other.
I did manage to win my last round a game against a kid who was having a really bad tournament. His moves in our game made no sense at all.
It was nice to meet you. Have a safe trip back home.
