Pandolfini’s Endgame Course Book Review

Author: Bruce Pandolfini

Publisher: Fireside Chess Library (Simon & Schuster)

Heft: 320 pages

Rating Range: 1000 – 1800

Construction: The book is fairly well constructed, but it falls into the really cheap book so don’t be poking around too much category. Bottom line is it is pretty cheap, $14.95 regular price $12.71 from Amazon, so if the pages [...]

Chess Endings: Essential Knowledge Book Review

Author: Yuri Averbach

Publisher: Everyman Chess

Heft: 112 pages (lightweight!)

Construction: The pages were ok, the book is small and is dirt cheap, so you can’t really complain about the less than perfect paper. I do however have a problem when pages fall out of a book, especially when it happens two weeks after purchase, as [...]

Silman’s Complete Endgame Course Book Review

Author: Jeremy Silman, who else?

Publisher: Siles Press

Heft:     530 pages (Very Hefty!)

Rating Range: Everyone

Construction: This is bigger (dimension-wise) than most chess books, given the size and the sheer number of pages you might think that the publishers would cut some corners in the materials department to save a few bucks. Thankfully it does not seem [...]

Chess School Volume 4 (Manual of Chess Endings) Book Review

Author: Sarhan Guliev

Publisher: Russian Chess House

Heft: 183 pages

Rating Range: Everyone

Construction: The book is well put together; there is actual thread in the binding! The pages are of pretty good quality and there is minimal bleed through from one page to another, the pages are also actually white, not a faded yellow as I am noticing [...]

Big announcement tomorrow

Ok I will finally finish my Rio Rancho Open recap tomorrow, I promise. But the last game isn’t that important, how the tournament affected me as a whole is far more important. Suffice to say I have a BIG announcement. I mean HUGE. Bigger than Mr. E’s Jewelry, big, Bigger than this dog’s hairdo big [...]

Where was I?

Oh yeah, stinking it up in New Mexico, but before we get started with the Rio Rancho Open recap I have a few random topics to hit on.

Mexico was pretty cool.  Although I did fail to bring oatmeal or any Pop Tarts, so I had to settle for having shirmp fajitas for breakfast.  The one [...]

Sorry

Update will have to wait until next week.  Ran out of time and I’m getting ready to go to Mexico for a quick weekend getaway.  I’ll be by the ocean again, do you know how long it’s been since I’ve been by a body of water?  Well it’s been a long time kids, all I [...]

Rio Rancho Open Tournament Recap

OK so the wife and I and our trusty four legged friend leave late Friday morning heading towards New Mexico. The trip was pretty uneventful although the beauty of the landscape always captivates me.

See what I mean?

Anyway since I planned this trip a wee bit better there were no late night blind dashes through uncharted [...]
