Monday:
My Final for stats won’t be available until Wednesday, so I did the problems at the end of Lesson 5: Destructive Combinations. I scored a 7 out of 12. These were the hardest problems yet. Many of the solutions have multiple branches, although I got the first 3 or 4 moves right I didn’t see the branch that came up afterwards, I don’t know if I could have figured it out OTB.
Tuesday:
Umm…going back to working nights kind of kicked my ass. No chess today.
Wednesday:
Started my stats final and played a G15. I’m playing more thoughtfully, but so did my opponent. I won, here’s the game. My opponent lost on time, I still had 2 1/2 minutes left.
On the plus side, eating a steady diet of G15 has made me handle my clock issues, on the other hand I am playing quieter moves. I know that I don’t have time for a long think, this affected me here because I could have livened the game up a bit, but didn’t get up the nerve. My opponent dropped a piece out of frustration/desperation but once again, I’ll take the W.
Thursday:
Almost done with the Stats final, I’ll finish the last 2 problems Sunday afternoon. Until then…Chess time! I did another 30 problems on level 20 of CT-ART, I scored an abysmal 61% in 40 minutes. A few days off from these makes a big difference.
Friday:
I did another 30 problems on CT-ART, once again level 20. The way I’ve been performing on these I’ll be on this level for awhile. This time I scored 79% in 34 minutes, not too bad. I look at the clock and…yeah there is enough time…
I snuck in a G15 before work, and I was handed my first loss since the new training program. The game is here. I blew this one, plain and simple. My first mistake was on move 28. I should have played 28…Rxd1 29.Rxd1, e4?!. I put ?! because I’m not sure yet, I’ll have to take a look at it further. Later on I blunder my Rook twice!! My opponent missed it the first time, 36…Rd2 is my best option, I think. He didn’t miss it the second time and I resigned.
Got to work on Friday and we aren’t running production on Saturday! Which means I have Saturday off! This is the first time this has happened, so I’ll take it. Double good news is, there is a local tourney tomorrow. I’ll see if I can make it.
Saturday:
I’ll tell you tomorrow…
Did you make the tournament??
Yeap. See the new post.
Awesome job keeping up with the training. I like these posts, I’m thinking of copying them…I don’t know though I’m probably too lazy.
It helps to keep you honest, and you can actually see what you did for chess improvement at the end of the week, which helps.
